It is so great to be able to end an amazingly hectic week joining Rhonda on her On My Mind project.
My order from fishpond arrived on Tuesday. I kept it wrapped in all its postage paraphernalia until Wednesday night as I was worried that I might need take a 'sickie' if I dared to open it before my paid-work week was over. I looked at it as a little treat to myself.
I has seen (and admired) this book for ages, and after reading about it on cityhippyfarmgirl, I finally decided to take the plunge and get a copy for myself (as well as one for my bestie).
So today I am going to treat myself to an hour or so of reading Real Food Companion while nibbling on some of my new favourite treat - dried strawberries.

I think a few cups of tea would be good to help relax if only it wasn't going to be 35 degrees C all weekend.

The dried strawberries were amazing. The only 'problem' was that because I bought them from a bulk bin, there was no ingredient list so I don't know if there was added sugar (like so often with cranberries) or any sulphites.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure Rhonda mention this same book on her blog a while ago & I was very tempted by it then, as I am again now. It sounds very good. Yours truly has blown my book budget in recent weeks, (so many gardening books, so littel time)so it will be a while off for me yet. Enjoy your days off & your new book.
ReplyDeletePrincessscarecrow, I know what you mean about blowing the book budget. I justified it to myself with the fact that I would be saving money it I used a lot of the recipes. Fishpond are really good too. They don't charge postage, just like Book Depository.

ReplyDeleteChristine, the book is great. It is one of those books you would buy for someone who needs to know a bit of everything about cooking. One of my favourite parts is that the author, Matthew Evans, is Australia.

ReplyDeleteMary, I have only really read the introduction and already I love it. He writes it like a letter to his unborn child about his own view on food and nutrition. Such a lovely start to the book.

ReplyDeleteSo glad you got the book and are happy with it. If I could only choose one book from my cook books I would choose this one. His food philosophy is bang on the money. I have to restrain myself on my blog from raving about him too much other wise I will have to change the name to "Matthew Evans, my Food Guru".

ReplyDeleteI have always been a huge Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall fan but have always been looking for an Australian with a similar philosophy, who knows about Australian produce and climate.
My friend and I have been comparing notes on recipes over the past few days and are just in love with the book. I would even join your 'Matthew Evans Appreciation Society'.
Now theres a thought. A M. E Appreciation Society, I think it should be done!
