Gardening On My Mind

This weekend my little vege garden is on my mind.

I have been waiting for the weather to cool down a little so that my lovely little seedlings wouldn't perish before they had a chance to get going.

Gardening is still pretty new to me even though both of my parents have always been avid and talented green thumbs. With their guidance I have managed to get two gardens beds underway growing lovely leafy greens and capsicums at this stage. I have also found the Gardenate email reminders to be extremely helpful. Looking through supermarket fruit and vegetable sections no longer lets you know what season it is, so this guide and been extremely helpful.

This planting gets me thinking that I will need to be making some ricotta and pasta in a few months.

Happy gardening.

  2. Wendy, ricotta is really easy to make. I did find with my first batch that it didn't quite curdle properly so after a bit of research added a splash of white vinegar. It does leave quite a bit of whey so I need to find a recipe that uses this leftover. Once when I made it I added some chopped herbs and a little garlic, poured it into a greased little ramekin and then baked it. Absolutely yummy cooled on crackers.
    Good luck : )

  3. I've been thinking about making ricotta lately. I've got some gorgeous milk at the moment, so I should give it a go.
With your left over whey you can pop it in to bread (if you make it :-)

  4. cityhiippyfarmgirl, thanks heaps for the advice about the whey. I made some bread rolls yesterday and they were pretty tasty. It is so lovely to eat bread that actually has some substance to it rather than being all light and airy.
