Plastic Bag Ban

When walking out of the IGA this morning I noticed a huge headline across the front of our state daily newspaper.

This brought a huge smile to my face.

I really hope that more councils follow this lead and get rid of these poisonous, pollution-causing items.

If you haven't watched the great David Attenborough style video, The Majestic Plastic Bag, head over here for a look.

I'm off to send an email to my local council and see if they are planning a similar ban.

Take care

  1. I know it all has to start somewhere but it seems really silly when I see all of those overpackaged items with three and even four layers of packaging being neatly stacked into those green bags. Achhhhh. Cheers, Wendy

    1. I know exactly what you mean. Do biscuits really need to be in a box, wrapped in plastic with a plastic tray holding each biscuit individually? I think not.

  2. Its a great start! Thanks for posting about it. The comments at the end of the article are very disappointing though, what is wrong with these people? I use green bags by choice because I prefer them. I still seem to end up with plenty of plastic bags for garbage bags, how much garbage do these people make? grrrrr.

    1. It's crazy. I know I sometimes use plastic rubbish bags for rubbish but try not to as when I went on a tour of the recycling facility that take the rubbish and sorts through for the compostable bits, they asked they we not use rubbish bags but rather something like newspaper as this is compostable and makes the sorting much easier. I know that in some councils, the equipment can handle plastic bags. I remember when our rubbish and scraps were always wrapped in newspaper.
It is amazing how negative some people can be with their comments to the paper. A lot of people don't seem to see the bigger picture.

Thanks so much for dropping by. I really appreciate any comments you have to make.
