Tea On My Mind

I've been thinking...up until a few months ago, English Breakfast tea was the drink of choice in this household. We would stumble out of bed and before a word was uttered, the kettle on. Weekends were certainly the worst. It seemed like the kettle was reboiled before I could even see the bottom of the cup. We had changed from tea bags to loose leaf, for environmental/packaging reasons, and had even bought a gorgeous little Zero Japan tea pot with a stainless steel infuser.

We made the decision to try to cut back on the amount of tea we were drinking as the line between habit and addiction was becoming a little blurred.

Since then, herbal teas have become more regular. We have started growing mint (I haven't killed this one), lemon verbena and lemongrass, and making different combinations, which are definitely very refreshing during these summer months.

Now this is where I need your help regarding which herbs I should be planting to make some delicious teas.

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend.

  1. We're thinking of planting some lemongrass, the grassy ends, not the white stalk, are meant to make a lovely tea.

And I'm waiting for our new lemon tree to start fruiting so we can have lemon & ginger tea.

I hadn't thought of mint, we have a pot due for a haircut, I think I'll whip up a batch on the weekend.

    thanks for idea :)

  2. I was introduced to lemon verbena and lemongrass tea a few months ago and love it.
My parents have an amazing lemon tree and you have just reminded me to grab some next time I am there.
Enjoy your mint tea. : )

  3. Mint is the first one that comes to mind and you've got that covered. (Ours is currently being eaten with gusto by a family of devious caterpillars.)
Lemon tea is lovely, a great way to start the day...

  4. Our mint plant is going fairly crazy at the moment which has totally surprised me as I have been know to kill these poor little plants. We also have a chocolate mint plant that we have used in the homemade icecream.

  5. I have a lemon balm plant that I think is in the mint family. I made some wine with it the first year..it is very hardy and I found the leaves good in tea. Take that with a grain of salt since in this neck of the woods coffee reigns supreme!

  6. Thanks for that, Mary. Lemon balm sounds interesting. Wine sounds very interesting. I would love to hear more about that.
